There was one certainty Dr. Colin McKenna couldn’t dispute and that was the bright red hair and fiery temperament that went with it was terribly intriguing, and horribly tempting to a man. Colin also knew that as a patient, she is ethically beyond his reach. The trouble was he couldn’t afford to get so involved with anyone just now, and even if he could become involved with his luck this woman would only make matters worse. A patient who’s determined to ruin not only his practice, but his reputation as well, is stalking Colin. Jamie had gone so far as to file suit accusing him of sexual impropriety. There was no truth to the accusation, but in spite of the case’s merits, according to his lawyer Colin had to be careful, and had to watch his every move. This is not the life Colin would choose to live, but being forced into this corner, he is getting desperate. What he doesn’t need is the threat or the temptation this woman presents. With her blatant sexuality and hidden vulnerabilities, Lucky Clayborn is definitely a big, off the scale temptation.
The woman is an enigma, and Colin senses more, knows there is a much deeper reason for the behavior. On the surface, her “drunk driving” may be the why she was assigned to his clinic for treatment and the court appointed counseling. Instinct tells him she is not truly an alcoholic, but he is not the one to delve into her past. She hides the pain he senses within her well, but it is not something he appreciates for he knows the damage it can do if not let out and faced. As a psychiatrist, Colin has seen too much of that kind of damage. The more he learns more about her, and as their relationship deepens, he finds himself falling for the wounded woman that Lucky tries so valiantly to hide, and wanting to reach out and help her to heal. The reaction is not one Colin wants, but he soon realizes there isn’t much he can do about it for he is well and truly trapped. As danger mounts, and Lucky is threatened too, Colin has to make the tough decision whether to let Lucky go, or to face his own desires and make his dreams come true.
There is absolutely no way that Lucky Clayborn was going to keep Dr. McKenna as a therapist. The court mandated counseling sessions were bad enough, but this man was sexier than sin, and handsome as the devil and far too much of a temptation for her to resist on a weekly basis. Granted, the sessions before were doomed before they started, and this time she feels will be no different, but no way was she going to see him. There are too many other things she would love to do with him, and all of them would be unethical from his point of view. He proved that when she came on to him the first night, and Lucky has to give him credit for turning down what she offered. She saw the desire that flamed in his gaze, felt the heat blazing between them and was shocked to her core. These feelings were not to be embraced or comfortable for her because they often let her down. They are the reason that she was sent to the counseling in the first place, and the reason why she asked for a change in counselors.
Lucky wants the handsome doctor, and usually what she wants, she gets. She is not adverse to hard work, and it will take some hard work to get Colin, but she is sure it will be worth it. Her only hope is that the affaire will last longer, and the let down will not be as bad as the others. Rolling off the waves of broken relationships, and fighting the insecurities of her past were the driving forces in her life before, but this time something was different. This sense is a whole new issue, an experience she has never before experienced. The feeling of sexual attraction has not been as immediate or as strong as she feels toward Colin, and she is not sure if it is reciprocated. If not, she will be devastated and will deal with it as best she can, but first she has to snare the man and then explore the possibilities. With these goals in mind, Lucky sets out to win the hapless doctor to her bed, but has to be sure she can protect her heart. There is the rub, because she senses the waters run deep, and she just may find herself in over her head and in danger of drowning…
Tori Carrington takes us back to Toledo in her May release Indecent, and introduces us to Doctor Colin McKenna, psychiatrist and partner with the Sylvania Wellness Center, and consummate bachelor. Abstinence is not his normal course in relationships, and loneliness is not something he tolerates well but due to some false and unfounded claims of impropriety, Colin is forced into a celibate lifestyle totally alien to him. He is not promiscuous, but he is a man with a healthy libido, and one never lacking for a date. Enter into the picture the one woman in Toledo, in the world, who can cause him to burst into flames and you have the making of a hot time, one that could burn the town to the ground. Toledo may never be the same again as the two of them set the town ablaze in their own unique way, while facing the danger that has Colin worried for his well-being and possibly for Lucky’s life. One wounded woman, and the man who is reluctantly falling in love with her make a pair that are unrivaled in their zest for life, their fear of commitment, and the belief that this is just a fling.
Indecent is a book about two people who are a matched set fighting an attraction that is both intense and immediate. The doctor accused of indecent contact with a patient, and the woman who really wants to be in indecent contact with him in a big way. In Indecent, we meet a man hurt by a past relationship, and determined never to go down that particular road again. He meets a woman, scarred by the abuse in her past who is determined never to get close to anyone, never to suffer the loss of trust and love. Much more alike than either wants to admit, Colin and Lucky make a formidable pair as together they find life and love, and the real meaning of a good relationship. Indecent is also a heart-warming story about the help they unwittingly give each other, and the lessons they learn in their journey to romance, and finally to true love. This June release from Harlequin Blaze is a very good example of Tori Carrington’s style and definitely deserves a place on your keeper shelf.
Yours in good reading,
