Interview with Laura James:
Hi Laura. Thank you for doing this interview. I would like to welcome you to the Romance at Heart Interview and Author Grilling session. *bg* We are interested to find out as much about you as we possibly can, so lets get started...
- Please tell us about your latest book.
Title: The Elusive Heir
Our hero lives on the warm exotic island of Ceylon, and has spent his youth creating a new identity. Gone is the skinny lad, the golden locks, and pasty white British skin. In his place stands a man of nearly six foot three, with thick mahogany hair and bronze skin. He not only looks the part of an island native, he has become one. Although he lives a lavish life and appears to want for nothing, the man has never really found happiness. Then one evening he stumbles upon a mysterious maiden, who vehemently curses at him for his carelessness. He is amazed at her audacity, but intrigued by her nonetheless. Hugh readily admits there is more than just lust between them, yet she feigns indifference to his advances and disappears into the darkness…
- What can we expect from you in the future?
I just finished The Elusive Heir, which is a historical romance. Along with getting that published, I am currently working on a third historical romance. I am also trying something different, and have a vampire romance on the drawing board.
- How do we find out about you and your books?
I am currently in the process of updating my web site, and that would be the place to go. It is laurajames.org. I am also a featured writer at authorsredroom.com.
- Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
Unless I have a deadline for something, I go with the flow. I do try to write everyday, but the length of time varies.
- What about your family, do they know not to bother you when you are writing - or are there constant interruptions?
I no longer have young children, and my family would gladly accommodate me, if I needed to be alone to work. And, more often then not, that’s exactly what happens. However, I prefer to work with the office door open, welcoming conversations and life to occasionally coax me from the computer. I can work in silence, or amidst chaos… I am a mother!!
- Do you feel humor is important in women's fiction and why?
In the process of creating a story, a character will experience a myriad of emotions. I like to include a bit of humor throughout the tale, in an effort to show all sides of a character’s personality. Humor is often a mood altering, scene stealing, effective tool that I use to bring a character to life. Real emotions are necessary to creating a character and humor is one of my favorites.
- What does your husband think of your writing?
My husband is very proud of me, and supports me without hesitation. Yet, more than just providing encouragement, he assists with many of the required tasks, like promotions, marketing, and advertising. (Not to mention computer problems!!!)
- How long have you been writing - have you always wanted to be a writer?
I have wanted to be a writer as long as I can remember. I started a manuscript in high school, but it got shelved because at that time, I lacked confidence. As time passed, I saved my ideas, stories and plots; hoping that someday I would be able to make use of them. Eventually I filled a box and I called it my ‘Someday Project.’ Meaning, someday I would pursue my dreams to be a writer. As you can see… it is a project that I have begun.
Thank you very much, for taking the time with us and answering our questions. I really appreciate this interruption to busy schedule, Laura, and speaking with us. Good Luck, and we will be looking forward to the next delightful creation from your talented imagination!
Yours in good reading,
Rose!
